New Things I Am Loving Around the House

Isn't this soap dish adorable?  I have had the hardest time finding the 'perfect' soap dish.... And I have confession to make. This is actually a cat food dish that I had every intention of giving to Circus.  Until I realized that it was EXACTLY what I was looking for in a soap dish, I hope Circus doesn't mind because I love it.
I won this over the sink cutting board at our work Christmas party this year and I am wondering how I ever survived without it?  And, it forces me to keep the sink relatively empty, which is an added bonus, hehehe
I just really liked this porcelain apple, and I think I may have a crafty idea up my sleeve for it
I am loving the design and colour of my new backpack
I finally found a nice rattan basket to corral all of my reusable shopping bags
I waited for the shadow boxes to go on sale at Michaels and finally spent the gift card that my sister gave me for Christmas.  I know this picture is blurry, but its the best I can do in the middle of winter around here (sigh).  As soon as I get some good natural light, I'll be sure to snap a better pic.

Icicles

We've had a long, cold and snowy winter this season in Kelowna.  I don't remember having icicles at all last year.. and these babies have been growing for weeks!

Out entire eavesdrop is filled to overflowing with ice, the drips are landing on our bushes below and are forming even more icicles on their way down.
I find the different forms fascinating, and a beautiful side effect of the bitter cold we've been enduring.

Veggie and Tuna Salad Bento

Oh how I've missed this!  I'm back to making bento again after taking a break for a couple of months.  I find that I appreciate the act, the art, and the final product of making bento much more if I take a brief hiatus every now and then.
Hello old friend - my tried and trusted tuna bento
Contents: baby carrots, radishes, cucumber slices and tuna salad (celery, white onion, skipjack tuna and olive oil mayo)

Homemade Cottage Journal

I made this 'Cottage Journal' for my parents for Christmas and now I can do a post about it without ruining the surprise!   Of course I had to make one homemade gift this year and I had this idea in the back of my mind since visiting the cottage this summer.
I bought a good quality journal from chapters to start with.  Then I added some nature themed scrapbook paper, washi tape, and other embellishments to make it interesting. I also added some pictures of my family enjoying the cottage to make it more personal.
When I thought of the idea initially, I thought it would be a great place to record what happens at the cottage through out the year.  A place to record important information and happenings, perhaps some favourite photos. I was also hoping it would be used as a guest sign-in book so that visitors have a place to record their name, date of visit, and perhaps share an experience or two.
I hope this journal begins to reflect all of the love, warmth and enjoyment that is experienced while living the 'cottage life'.
