More Practice with Manual

Shooting outside on a sunny day is the easiest so far (not surprisingly)
The many faces of Miko - my favourite subject

Taking pictures inside is very daunting!  This is one of the only ones I took that wasn't blurry
These two are so cute together, I just had to include these even though they are blurry.

Hugs for Grandma!

Experimenting with Manual Settings

Even though I've had my camera for a couple of years now, I have always been too intimidated to use manual mode.  I borrowed a great book from the library called 'Understanding Exposure' and have vowed to never go back to using automatic settings!
The pictures above are the first ones I attempted in manual mode. I have a lot to learn, but I realized the best way to practice it to just take a lot of pictures in different environments.
Taking pictures outside is the easiest so far, although I seem to spend a lot of time looking at my camera's brightness meter!
Some pictures turn out blurry of course, others are either over or underexposed. Every once in a while a capture a favourite (like the one below)

While shooting in automatic mode, I used to focus solely on the composition of the picture and let the camera do the rest.  Now I have shifted my focus from compostion to just focusing on getting an exposure that is clear and bright.  Once I gain more confidence I am hoping I will be able to multi-task.

I definitely need to work on my close-ups...

The portraits of Miko are turning out better already, but I am having trouble with landscape shots and shooting indoors.

These ones of Miko peering through the fence are my favourites so far.

Family Photo Shoot

Here are a few of my favourite shots from our photo-shoot in August.

Circus had to get in the pictures of course
Oh no, what have we started!  He appears to love the motorcycle already :)
Thanks for taking our picture Ken!

Crafty Frame

With all the pictures I have taken of Miko, it sure took me a long time to display a few of them in our home.  I have a scrapbook I am working on but I keep it tucked away while it is a work in progress.

I had this art/frame that didn't suit our décor anymore so I spray painted it white, without really knowing what I would use it for.  After months of racking my brain, I realized I could use it to showcase some of my favourite pictures of Miko.

I went through all of the pictures I had taken of him and managed to choose nine of my favourites.  I did some adjusting with Picmonkey to get them close to the size I needed and then printed them out at Walmart.

The last step was to cut them out and Modpodge them onto the frame, so easy!  It was harder to decide how to use the frame then it was to actually carry out my vision.

Now it is hanging outside of Miko's room where we can see it everyday, and it still makes me smile.
